Patra Pinda Sweda, also known as Patra Potli Swedan, is a therapeutic Ayurvedic treatment that involves the application of heated herbal poultices to the body. "Patra" refers to leaves, "Pinda" means bolus or poultice, and "Sweda" means sudation or sweating. Specific herbs, leaves, and medicinal plants are selected based on individual needs and conditions. These herbs are tied into cloth bags to create poultices or boluses. Before the Swedan treatment, the body is typically massaged with warm herbal oils to prepare the body for sweating and enhance the absorption of medicinal properties. The client lies down, and the herbal poultices are heated in a pan or steamer until they reach a tolerable temperature. The therapist then gently massages the body with the heated poultices in a rhythmic manner. The poultices are pressed, pounded, and rubbed on different areas of the body, focusing on joints, muscles, and areas experiencing pain or stiffness. As the heated herbal poultices are applied, they release their medicinal properties, and the heat induces sweating. The body is covered with a towel to trap the heat and promote sweating, aiding in the elimination of toxins, relaxation of muscles, and enhancement of circulation.
