Jambeera Pinda Sweda, also known as Navarakizhi or Njavarakizhi, is a highly therapeutic and rejuvenating Ayurvedic treatment originating from Kerala, India. The term "Jambeera" refers to lemon, "Pinda" means bolus or bundle, and "Sweda" translates to sweat or sudation, reflecting the key components and effects of this therapy. Navarakizhi involves the application of boluses filled with cooked Navara rice, a unique variety of rice known for its medicinal properties, milk, and herbal decoctions to the body in a rhythmic manner to induce sweating and promote healing.

The preparation of Navarakizhi begins with soaking Navara rice in a mixture of cow's milk and herbal decoctions, which may include herbs such as Dashamoola, Bala, Ashwagandha, and Shatavari, among others. The rice is then cooked until soft and tied into cloth pouches to form boluses. These boluses are then heated in a mixture of warm milk and herbal decoctions before being applied to the body in a synchronized manner by trained therapists.

During a Navarakizhi session, the warm boluses are gently massaged or pressed onto the body, focusing on specific areas or marma points (vital energy points) as per the individual's needs. The heat and herbal properties of the boluses penetrate deep into the skin, muscles, and tissues, inducing sweating and promoting detoxification, relaxation, and relief from pain and stiffness. This therapy is particularly beneficial for conditions such as arthritis, rheumatism, muscle spasms, and neurological disorders.

The therapeutic benefits of Navarakizhi extend beyond physical healing to include mental and emotional well-being. The rhythmic massage strokes and soothing warmth of the boluses have a calming and grounding effect on the nervous system, reducing stress, anxiety, and fatigue. Additionally, the aromatic properties of the herbal ingredients help to uplift the mood, promote mental clarity, and enhance overall relaxation and rejuvenation.

Navarakizhi is often used as part of a comprehensive Ayurvedic treatment plan to address specific health concerns or imbalances. It is typically used in conjunction with other therapies such as Abhyanga (Ayurvedic oil massage), Shirodhara (oil pouring therapy), and Panchakarma (Ayurvedic detoxification) to support the body's natural healing processes and promote holistic well-being.
