Nasyam is an Ayurvedic therapy that involves the administration of herbal oils or medicated substances into the nasal passages. In Sanskrit, "Nasya" means "nasal administration" or "nasal therapy." This ancient practice is believed to have a wide range of therapeutic benefits for both physical and mental health.
During a Nasya session, the individual lies down comfortably, and a small amount of herbal oil or medicated substance is instilled into each nostril. The practitioner may administer the oil using a dropper or a special nasal applicator. The person receiving the treatment then inhales the oil, allowing it to reach deep into the nasal passages and sinuses.
The herbal oils used in Nasya are often formulated with specific herbs and ingredients selected based on the individual's dosha imbalance and health needs. Commonly used oils include sesame oil, ghee (clarified butter), and medicated oils infused with herbs such as Brahmi, Ashwagandha, or Shankhapushpi
a wide range of therapeutic benefits for both physical and mental health.
